Following operational and investigative activities in Batumi, officers of the Georgian Border Police, part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), have detained a person, identified as A.G., a Turkish citizen born in 1974.
He was sought internationally by Turkish law enforcement agencies with a Red Notice for the alleged commission of a particularly grave crime, premeditated murder.
“A.G. illegally crossed Georgia’s border in 2021, before the issuance of the international search warrant. He was subsequently convicted under Article 344 of the Georgian Criminal Code,” the statement by the Border Police reads.
The authorities have confirmed that extradition proceedings, as stipulated by law, are now underway.
