Coordination with the UN International Maritime Organisation, Black Sea security and stability, the development of ferry connections between the two countries, and other significant issues were discussed at a meeting in London between Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, and Türkiye’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu. The meeting was also attended by deputy ministers Tamar Ioseliani and Durmuş Unuvar.
According to the Georgian Ministry of Economy, the parties underscored the numerous dimensions of successful economic partnership between Georgia and Türkiye, including the maritime sector, where cooperation is highly active and holds even greater potential for development.
At the bilateral meeting held within the framework of the IMO Assembly, the ministers discussed possibilities for new ferry routes and joint studies in this area, which would promote tourism and, more broadly, deepen economic ties. Meeting participants also discussed cooperation in energy transition and maritime sector digitalisation, maritime education and training, hydrography, experience-sharing in shipbuilding, and other areas. These initiatives will offer both countries’ maritime sectors even greater opportunities to deepen mutual collaboration and enhance regional governance.
Mariam Kvrivishvili is in London with a delegation to participate in the 34th session of the IMO Assembly. At the event, attended by representatives from over 150 countries worldwide, Mariam Kvrivishvili will deliver a presentation discussing trends in Georgia’s maritime sector, as well as ongoing and planned reforms.
The ministry announced that the visit will also feature a meeting between the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development and IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez, as well as bilateral meetings with several ministerial colleagues.
