The Georgian Parliamentary Friendship Group with Israel discussed ongoing activities and cooperation issues during the visit to the Israeli Knesset.
Georgian Friendship Group, led by Givi Mikanadze, held meetings with the Friendship Group with Georgia, members of the Knesset Economic Development Committee, the Chair of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, as well as representatives from political entities.
During the meeting with the head of the Friendship Group with Georgia, David Bitan, the discussion focused on bilateral cooperation. Bilateral initiatives were established, highlighting active cooperation, information sharing, and experience exchange among the respective sectoral committees of the two legislative bodies. The sides emphasized economic collaboration.
Georgian MPs proposed twinning Gurjaani and Sighnaghi towns with Israeli ones. David Bitani welcomed the proposal and promised full support to the Georgian side.
Meetings also discussed issues related to the entry of Georgian citizens into Israel, increasing the influx of Georgian tourists to Israel, and the possibility of legal employment of Georgians in various sectors. The Knesset members pledged support on these issues.
Discussions extended to ongoing justice-related reforms in both countries.
As part of the visit, the Georgian Friendship Group met with Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana. The discussions underscored the significance of parliamentary diplomacy and the longstanding, profound relationship that has linked the two nations over centuries. To strengthen and enhance relations at the parliamentary level, the Knesset Speaker confirmed his intention to conduct an official visit to Georgia in early September this year.
