Georgia and Nauru establish diplomatic relations

Diplomatic relations have officially been established between Georgia and the Republic of Nauru. The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, and the President of the Republic of Nauru, David Adeang, signed the corresponding accord.

According to the Prime Minister’s press office, during their meeting in New York, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze again thanked President David Adeang for Nauru’s decision to sever diplomatic ties with Georgia’s occupied territories. He emphasised that this move underscores how adherence to the principles of international law remains the cornerstone of stable and responsible international relations.

“Discussions touched upon cooperation within multilateral frameworks, including international organisations. The sides also reviewed prospects for deepening partnership in areas of mutual interest and strengthening people-to-people ties,” the Prime Minister’s press office reported in an official release.

Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Botchorishvili, Head of the Government Administration Levan Zhorzholiani, and Georgia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Davit Bakradze, attended the bilateral meeting.

As a reminder, on July 29, the Republic of Nauru formally revoked its recognition of the independence of the occupied regions of so-called South Ossetia and Abkhazia, terminating all diplomatic relations with them.
