Republic of Nauru severs diplomatic ties with occupied Abkhazia and so-called South Ossetia

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia welcomes the decision taken on July 21, 2026, by the Cabinet of Nauru, the executive body of the Republic of Nauru, to annul diplomatic relations “between the Republic of Nauru and the Republic of South Ossetia, also known as the State of Alania” and “between the Republic of Nauru and the Republic of Abkhazia”,” reads the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.

As noted in the statement, this decision reaffirms that respect for and observance of international legal norms constitute the foundation of healthy international relations.

“Georgia expresses its readiness to establish diplomatic relations with the Republic of Nauru and to foster the intensification of bilateral co-operation based on shared interests,” the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia read.
