An agreement between the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Georgia was signed on February 24, 2026, in Vienna. The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia reported.
According to the Ministry, the agreement was signed on Georgia’s behalf by Nino Utiashvili, Head of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency, acting as the authorised representative designated by government decree. Signing on behalf of the IAEA was Hua Liu, Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation.
“The implementation of the Country Programme Framework will ensure support and continuity across such priority areas as nuclear and radiation safety and security, health and nutrition, food and agriculture, water and the environment, and energy and industry. The development of these sectors is essential for the well-being of the population and the country’s long-term economic growth,” said Nino Utiashvili.
“The Country Programme Framework is the principal strategic document governing cooperation with the Agency, setting out the priority directions of the partnership between Georgia and the IAEA and providing the foundation for the implementation of joint projects. The original agreement between the parties was concluded on November 26, 2020, covering the period 2020–2025. The extension of the programme reflects the robust partnership between the IAEA and Georgia and their shared commitment to supporting the sustainable development of nuclear and radiation safety,” the Ministry said in its statement.
