General Prosecutor’s Office to apply to Ukraine to extradite Giorgi Samushia
The Georgian General Prosecutor’s Office will apply to Ukraine with the demand to extradite Giorgi Samushia, a former employee of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police department who was detained in Ukraine.
Samushia was arrested in 2015 for a crime committed in 2012 when the organized group plotted abridging freedom to Elberd Koberidze, a citizen whom former law-enforcers were forcing to admit organizing a terrorist act in Zugdidi town of Samegrelo region.
Koberidze refused to obey after which he was taken to Tbilisi and tortured at the Military Police Department. Three other former high-ranking officials are charged into the same case – Data Akhalaia, Gigi Kalandadze and Roman Shamatava.
Later Giorgi Samushia was released on bail. He managed to leave Georgia’s territory and has been since wanted by the Red Notice of Interpol. Samushia was last seen in Liege, Belgium, during the meeting of Mikheil Saakashvili, Georgian former president, with emigrants.
