GD’s Levan Machavariani: Foreign patrons not to bet on UNM
“External patrons of opposition parties will realize that the National Movement is so shameful that they cannot bet on them. That is why they make a bid on the Lelo and Gakharia for Georgia parties,” said Levan Machavariani, a member of the Georgian Dream (GD) party.
“The altered stance of the Lelo party, as we predicted, once again indicates their unstable viewpoint. They had been promising their voters for several months that they did not intend to participate in local elections if parliamentary elections were not appointed. It seems that they were instructed to take part in the elections and they have no other way,” Machavariani stated.
Remarking on Giorgi Gakharia’s plans, Machavariani said that the leader of the Gakharia for Georgia party followed the same scenario.
“Foreign patrons will monitor how the UNM votes could be distributed between the Lelo and Gakharia parties. If they get convinced of that, they might prohibit the UNM’s participation in the elections. However, the UNM has the voters, the majority of who are typical supporters of Misha (Mikheil Saakashvili). It is not likely that they vote for someone else but Mikheil Saakashvili’s party. If so, they might further divide and split the parties to bring in more confusion in society and easily deceive part of society,” he said.
Levan Machavariani remarked that the Georgian Dream was ready for any scenario.
“We have launched internal preparations. Regardless of how these parties unite or divide, we will beat them. We even prefer that they participated to illustrate their actual rating since their rating dramatically shrank after the parliamentary elections,” Levan Machavariani stated.
