GD Chair says President "breached Constitution if she tells truth about Europe visit"

The ruling Georgian Dream party Chair Irakli Kobakhidze said on Monday “it seems Georgian President breached the Constitution if she tells the truth about her visits to Europe.”

Kobakhidze’s remarks came after President Zourabichvili said in her address that the government restricted her international working visits amid an ongoing crisis in the region.

“On February 26, 2022, I was refused in writing to make working visits to Paris, Brussels, Berlin and Warsaw. I believe such an approach and restrictions damage our country, placed in such complex region,” She noted.

Given the current situation, the President stated that she cancelled all the official formats and was forced to resort to personal connections to visit leaders in Paris and Brussels.

She continued: “No time for restrictions, on the contrary, we should spare no effort on the international level, be fully engaged and give no rest to our partners. My 40-years-long experience in diplomacy and strategic issues, contacts should be fully exhausted for the benefit of the country.”

Earlier, the Georgian President held meetings with leaders of partner states in Europe amid ongoing war in Ukraine.
