GD Chair says EPP follows wrong principles

“Unfortunately, the European People’s Party (EPP) is notorious for acting on the wrong principle – it is a bad guy, but it is my bad guy. It is a well-known, proven approach,” said Irakli Kobakhidze, chair of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party, echoing the recent open letter of members of the European Parliament, Andrius Kubilius and Rasa Jukneviciene, to the Georgian people.

According to Kobakhidze, a friend of the United National Movement (UNM) party cannot be a friend of Georgia. He said the EPP united the UNM and European Georgia, and their affiliation “has the effect.”

“They (the two opposition parties) have committed many crimes, but they are culprits of the EPP. UNM’s lobbyists are just peddling this fake,” Kobakhidze said.

Members of the European Parliament, Andrius Kubilius and Rasa Jukneviciene, recently addressed the Georgian people with an open letter. The MEPs said they support the Georgian people’s aspiration on the EU integration path. However, they warned that the recommendations of the European Commission may not be ‘optimistic.’

“We want to encourage Georgian political powers and the Georgian people not to be disappointed if the result is less optimistic, but instead, to finally join forces for common work to bring Georgia to the EU,” the MEPs said.
