GD Chair, PACE Co-Rapporteurs discuss Georgia’s EU integration progress in Strasbourg
The ruling Georgian Dream party Chair, Irakli Kobakhidze, on Wednesday, claimed he had a “friendly” meeting with the Co-Rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, where the Georgian delegation had briefed the Co-Rapporteurs on the nation’s progress in fulfilling the 12 conditions set for granting the country the EU membership candidate status.
He noted that the Georgian side had “some critical remarks” over the Co-Rapporteurs’ recent report.
Kobakhidze went on to say that they briefed the Co-Rapporteurs of Georgia’s plan to continue the systemic reforms and pass the domestic bill on deoligarchisation, after receiving the Venice Commission’s opinion on the draft law.
The ruling party Chair said that the PACE Co-Rapporteurs praised the Georgian Parliament for sending the deoligarchisation bill to the Venice Commission for its opinion and claimed they would wait for the Commission’s next report, after which there would be a chance for the bill discussion.
The judicial reform was also among the discussion topics, he added.
Kobakhidze, together with the Georgian Parliamentary delegation, is participating in the Spring plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, taking place in Strasbourg between April 24-28.
