GD Chair optimistic about EU candidate status in December

“We have more solid grounds for optimism about [EU] candidate status than we had several months ago,” said Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party.

According to the GD Chair, Georgia was likely to receive EU candidate status in December despite the opposition’s attempts to create negative expectations in society.

“We have done our best for this, and we hope that finally, the decision will be positive,” Kobakhidze said, accusing the opposition of assigning “secondary importance” to the status.

“The chances are improved, and this is reflected in the rhetoric of the opposition,” he said.
