GD Chair: MIA did everything possible to prevent violence during Pride Festival
Georgian Dream party chair, Irakli Kobakhidze, on Thursday, echoed US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan’s remark that during Pride Festival on 8 July, “an unruly mob was allowed to walk for several kilometres through the streets of Tbilisi calling for violence.”
Kobakhidze stressed that “The Interior Ministry (MIA) did everything possible to prevent violence, and it is to their credit that no one was physically injured, despite the risks.”
“I don’t think that the diplomat’s assessment was correct. As for the punishment, it is not the ambassador’s job to give arrest orders, a diplomat should not talk about it. Thank God, we have independent law-enforcement bodies and they make decisions regarding these topics”, he added.
