GD Chair hopes new US Ambassador changes perceptions in society

The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party chair, Irakli Kobakhidze, believes ambassadors should not detriment the Georgia-US strategic partnership counting decades.

In Imedi LIVE, the GD responded to the allegations by opponents regarding the government’s criticism toward former US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan.

“We had serious critical remarks regarding the activity of the previous ambassador, and we see follow-ups of this. This also concerns statements about the USAID-funded training that are incomprehensible. It was about the change of the government by violent means, and at that time, what did the parents of children with oncological diseases have to do with the statement?” he said.

Irakli Kobakhidze said the ruling team was open for consultations with new US Ambassador Robin Dunnigan.

“I very much hope that the new ambassador will radically change the perceptions that have formed in Georgian society because of fabricated elements and support of extremism. I hope the new ambassador will contribute to all this,” he said.
