Gakharia for Georgia’s Giorgi Chanturia: Corrupt Opposition should be held responsible for October 4 provocation

“Gakharia for Georgia was the only party which warned society that October 4 was a provocation plotted in the Georgian Dream office that would be implemented by these irresponsible, foolish, so-called opposition politicians. Those individuals, who are ordinary, free citizens and were misled, should be released,” said Giorgi Chanturia, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party.

According to Chanturia, October 4 participants extended the GD’s power and term in office instead of its defeat. Chanturia believes that these politicians “killed the opposition spectrum and public protest in the country.”

“Before they express remorse, let them publicly declare that they were misled and with whom Zodelava and Burchuladze communicated within the GD ranks. The Georgian citizens see very clearly that it is extremely difficult to defeat the Georgian Dream when the opposition is corrupt, and it is the Georgian Dream that controls the corrupt opposition. Both should be removed,” he said.

In Chanturia’s words, everyone acknowledges that October 4 was “a special operation which was plotted in the Georgian Dream office and implemented by these irresponsible, foolish, so-called opposition politicians.”

“The opposition acted provocatively toward ordinary citizens with the help of the Georgian Dream, and ultimately, innocent people ended up in prison. From our party’s perspective, the events of October 4 were not correct, and they are not correct from today’s perspective either.

With the assistance of the corrupt opposition, public protest is dead in the country. Since October 4, almost every draconian law has taken effect. Every single person who fell for this provocation is an ordinary citizen, not a politician, who believed in nonsense. These people are victims of October 4 and should be released. The corrupt opposition must be held responsible,” he said.

On October 6, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia announced that opposition politicians convicted in the October 4 case, Murtaz Zodelava and Lasha Beridze, admitted guilt, expressed remorse, and filed for a plea bargain.
