Gakharia For Georgia’s Akubardia urges partners to address threats to Georgia’s sovereignty amid MFA silence
“Ivanishvili’s regime continues to attack the West even from the disaster zones of western Georgia while remaining silent about violations of our sovereignty by Russia, such as the arrival of the first train from Sochi in occupied Sokhumi and the second direct flight from Russia to the restored Sokhumi airport,” Teona Alubardia, the Gakharia For Georgia party member, told the media.
Alubardia urged Western partners to respond to actions undermining Georgia’s sovereignty, especially in light of the Foreign Ministry’s silence.
“The regime chose to remain quiet when Sergey Kiriyenko, First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Russian Presidential Administration, discussed regular high-speed train services during his visit to occupied Sokhumi. Now, it appears that regular flights from Russia to the restored Sokhumi airport will begin on May 1.
In 2023, while Ivanishvili’s regime ignored the illegal transfer of Sokhumi airport to Russia and adopted Russian laws that threatened Georgia’s ties with the West, we faced intensified Russian assaults on our territorial integrity and sovereignty. Ivanishvili’s collaboration with the enemy is evident through his tacit approval.
Amid the silence from the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we call on our Western partners to respond appropriately to these violations of Georgia’s sovereignty,” she concluded.
