Gakharia for Georgia urges PACE to suspend authority to Ivanishvili's non-recognized parliament
“Bidzina Ivanishvili violated the fundamental principles and rules based on which Georgia is a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and which envisages democracy, supremacy of law and fundamental human rights,” said Teona Akubardia, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party.
According to Akubardia, the party sent a letter to the PACE urging it to suspend duties to Bidzina Ivanishvili’s non-recognized parliament.
Gakharia for Georgia party is invited to the PACE meeting, where its representatives will have an additional opportunity to speak about gross violations of those principles.
Teona Akubardia said she could not predict the decision to be taken afterwards.
“However, we protect democracy and our country’s European path, which is the basic principle of our Constitution and which Ivanishvili’s regime not only undermined but grossly violated,” she said.
Teona Akubardia further added that the letter outlines the articles which Ivanishvili’s regime violated and for which Ivanishvili’s illegitimate government should be suspended its authority.
“I cannot say about the rest but the PACE will convene over fundamental rights, democracy and supremacy of law and it is obliged to review how its member country undermined fundamental principles,” she concluded.
