“I wish all opposition parties agree and find common ground. It is paramount to come to a consensus as the consolidated political environment will help Georgia overcome current challenges,” French Ambassador to Georgia, Diego Colas, said on Monday.
“Today, Georgia as well as the whole world is facing many challenges, including political and regional issues. Strong and functioning institutions are important,” French Ambassador stated.
Ambassador noted that France supports statements by the international organizations regarding parliamentary elections in Georgia.
The OSCE/ODIHR initial assessment read: “The parliamentary elections in Georgia were competitive and, overall, fundamental freedoms were respected.”
“We said earlier that reforms in elections and various democratic processes are needed. Political parties should continue discussions on these reforms. Therefore, the parliament, all institutions should be strong, find common ground and carry on the recovery of Georgia,” Diego Colas stressed.
German and French Foreign Ministries published a joint statement on Georgia on December 12, 2020. Foreign Ministries said: “All political forces in Georgia agree that further electoral and judicial reforms should remain high on the political agenda. For such a debate, parliament is the right forum, as a parliamentary process would strengthen the outcome and the process alike – and ultimately the trust in public institutions in Georgia.”
