Freedom House – Georgian government deserved high evaluation from population with respect to management of COVID-19 pandemic
Freedom House, a non-governmental organization, published a new report about the influence of COVID-19 pandemic in global struggle for freedom. In the report “Democracy in Lockdown,” the organization provided the situation studied in 192 countries.
Georgia is in the list of 111 countries where the situation with respect to democracy and human rights has not changed in the course of the pandemic.
“In Georgia, which remains to be a partially free country, the population gave high evaluation to the Georgian government for imposition of strict but transparent measures in struggle against COVID-19 pandemic.
Georgia has one of the lowest mortality rates globally, which has significantly boosted the popularity of the ruling Georgian Dream party ahead of the October elections. These cases are a reminder that any country can take steps to manage health risks and at the same time protect human rights,” reads the document.
Also, based on the report, Georgia is given 61 points out of 100 in Index of Freedom.
