Former SSSG Head Grigol Liluashvili sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment

The Tbilisi City Court sentenced former Head of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) Grigol Liluashvili to 13 years in prison.

The accused was present in the courtroom for the verdict delivery. Exercising his right to a final address during yesterday’s proceedings, Liluashvili affirmed his intention to continue contesting the charges through legal channels.

Defence counsel pointed to a complete lack of substantiating evidence in the case material. The prosecutor, however, maintained that the evidence presented fully establishes Liluashvili’s guilt regarding the charges brought against him.

The former SSSG chief was arrested on 23 December last year. He faces multiple counts, with investigators alleging large-scale bribery committed as part of an organised group by prior agreement, alongside the protection of illegal call-centre operations.

Liluashvili denies all charges.
