Former interior minister echoes ex-president’s interview

Former interior minister Vano Merabishvili echoed jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili’s interview with German news magazine Der Spiegel.

Vano Merabishvili said he could not ignore “misinterpretation” of his friend’s interview. He said he had committed many mistakes in the past but he did not “escape responsibility” and spent 7 years in prison.

Saakashvili told Der Spiegel that he did not rule out participation of Russian intelligence agents in plotting his return to Georgia in October of 2021.

“I am often accused of collaboration with Russian Intelligence services by those whose biography is full of direct or indirect collaboration with our country’s adversaries.

I’m sorry to have to say this, but to accuse me of something I’ve struggled with all my life is immoral and dishonorable.

Apart from Ukraine, none of the European special services has caused as much damage to the Russian special services as our Ministry of Internal Affairs. Russia is an enemy, Ukraine will win and Georgia will also have peace,” Merabishvili said.
