Foreign national arrested for attempting to import large quantities of narcotics into Georgia

Officers from the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia (MIA), in collaboration with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance, have detained an Israeli citizen, identified as M.M., born in 1999, on charges of unlawfully purchasing, possessing, and attempting to import a substantial quantity of narcotics into Georgia.

“During a search of the detainee’s luggage at Tbilisi International Airport, law enforcement officers seized eight pills and a broken pill of the narcotic substance ‘amphetamine’ as evidence,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.

The investigation is currently ongoing under Articles 260 and 262 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which stipulate penalties of up to 12 years’ imprisonment.
