For Georgia's Sharashidze: If UNM had any basic sense of responsibility, it would not have joined today's rally
“The irresponsible actions of the United National Movement undermined the peaceful protest. They neither took responsibility nor offered an apology,” stated Giorgi Sharashidze, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party, in parliament.
According to Sharashidze, if the United National Movement truly possessed any sense of responsibility, it would not have involved itself in this demonstration at all.
“The irresponsible actions of the United National Movement undermined the peaceful protest. They neither took responsibility nor offered an apology. If they truly cared for their country, they would refrain from interference. As the great Georgian sage wisely said: ‘Let the cobbler stick to his last.’ When you genuinely love your homeland and prioritise its interests above partisan concerns, then show kindness and step aside, as the revered Georgian sage advised.
As long as that force remains and continues to harm the protest, we refuse to accept responsibility for the damage; they have wounded us deeply with their actions. We are here today because we believe that our presence can offer a more sincere and effective opposition to Georgian Dream than street protests alone. That is the truth. Otherwise, my respect goes to all those who are genuinely outraged by the treacherous behaviour of Georgian Dream. Full responsibility for this process lies squarely with Georgian Dream.
November 28 marks a day of betrayal against our country’s interests, an act committed by Georgian Dream and Kobakhidze. We have voiced this from the parliamentary rostrum. I am confident that you will not hear any harsher words about this, even from the streets.
It’s just that you prefer yelling from the street; we are better at it, including speaking from the podium,” said Giorgi Sharashidze.
