For Georgia’s Sharashidze emphasises significance of discussing Georgia’s dire situation from Helsinki Commission platform
“It is vital that the dire conditions in Georgia, where human rights and the rule of law are under relentless threat, are discussed from such a distinguished forum as the Helsinki Commission,” stated MP Giorgi Sharashidze, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party, during a briefing.
“I believe what we heard was neither unexpected nor surprising. The so-called Georgian Dream propaganda seeks to diminish the significance of the Helsinki Commission, especially given that relations between Georgia and the United States are currently at a notably low point, far from the level they were four or five years ago.
Naturally, any assessment in this regard holds importance, but we should temper our expectations regarding any extraordinary outcomes from such statements or briefings. Nonetheless, these discussions cannot be dismissed. It is indeed significant that the unbearable situation in Georgia, where neither human rights nor the rule of law are safeguarded, is being spoken about from such a high platform as the Helsinki Commission,” Giorgi Sharashidze concluded.
