For Georgia's Parulava: Establishing new bank would enable Imedi and PosTV to bypass British sanctions, impacting banking sector and NBG

“Regrettably, Imedi has not represented free speech or free media in recent years. Through Imedi and PosTV, Great Britain has effectively sanctioned a PR agent and propaganda machine for Georgian Dream,” stated MP Giga Parulava, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party.

When asked about potential solutions and what steps could be taken, the Prime Minister also assured that these media outlets would not face any issues.

“I would remind you of how Georgian Dream and the National Bank of Georgia previously attempted to evade sanctions concerning Partskhaladze. Georgian Dream is solely interested in protecting the money it has earned through its own corrupt means, including call centres and bitcoins. I do not rule out that it might instruct the National Bank to set specific requirements, enabling Imedi and PosTV to circumvent sanctions once again.

The Prime Minister and the government are even prepared to establish a separate bank to provide Imedi and PosTV with the means to bypass restrictions. They are willing to sacrifice national interests for personal gain, even suggesting that a new bank will be created to allow these media outlets to evade sanctions. Naturally, this puts immense pressure on both the banking sector and the National Bank,” Giga Parulava concluded.
