For Georgia's Khvedeliani: Our initiative to establish minimum wage shields citizens from unfair pay
A member of the Gakharia for Georgia party, Tata Khvedeliani, highlighted the significance of the draft law spearheaded by their team, which aims to establish a minimum wage.
According to Tata Khvedeliani, this initiative safeguards citizens from unfair remuneration, diminishes unjust competition, and bolsters the social security system.
“As you may already be aware, last week, the parliamentary team of the Gakharia for Georgia party introduced a draft law on a minimum wage, which has already been discussed within the bureau and submitted to the relevant committees for review. Why is setting a minimum wage so crucial? Today, thousands of Georgians work diligently but still do not receive a fair salary for their labour. Prices are soaring, life is becoming increasingly expensive, and wages are insufficient to meet even the most basic needs.
Georgian Dream claims that the economy is growing, but this does not benefit ordinary Georgian citizens. The minimum wage is the essential safeguard that people deserve. It represents justice, protection, and decent working conditions. This initiative aims to shield citizens from unfair pay, reduce unjust competition in the labour market, and strengthen the social security system.
Currently, the Labour Code makes no provision for a minimum wage at all, leaving many workers unprotected,” stated Tata Khvedeliani.
