For Georgia’s Khvedeliani: Dialogue essential, yet GD and UNM are undermining it

Tata Khvedeliani, a member of the For Georgia party, says his party has already acknowledged that boycotting parliament and elections was a mistake and is now participating in parliamentary work.

“You have heard many times from our political forces that boycotting the parliament and the elections was a mistake. We have started parliamentary work and are using any peaceful means to reduce the number of Georgian Dream voters,” Khvedeliani said.

According to her, dialogue is an essential political tool that must be established in Georgia, but he claims the space for dialogue is being undermined.

“Dialogue is a very important tool and a given that must be established in our country, but this dialogue is being destroyed by two forces — Georgian Dream and the United National Movement. These two forces are destroying the space for dialogue with radical decisions, announcements of radical scenarios, radical legislative initiatives, and by increasing the level of radicalism in the country,” Khvedeliani stated.

She added that the level of political tension should be reduced and that people who, according to her, were imprisoned for political reasons should be released.

“That is why we are working on an amnesty legislative initiative that will help reduce the high level of radicalism and restart the country’s development. This will show whether Georgian Dream truly wants to change the current reality and reduce radicalism. If these two forces continue competing with radical rhetoric, it will ultimately harm the country and the interests of citizens,” Khvedeliani said.

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, in its statement following a recent visit to Georgia, called on all political actors to begin direct communication to restore dialogue
