For Georgia's Chanturia: UNM chooses to oppose opposition in local elections, UNM elite trolls GD

“In the local elections, the United National Movement (UNM) has chosen to be the opposition to the opposition, whilst their party’s elite section has engaged in Georgian Dream trolling,” stated Giorgi Chanturia, a member of the political council of the Gakharia for Georgia opposition party.

According to him, the United National Movement’s actions serve to foment discord amongst opposition voters.

“We wish to respond to the lies spread by Georgian Dream in recent days, in the dissemination of which UNM leaders are now openly assisting. For example, the propagandist channel Imedi TV, in its false report, falsely claims that one of our team’s leaders, Zaza Tavadze, has supposedly left our party, even though Zaza himself has refuted this, describing it as yet another lie. Nevertheless, one of the United National Movement’s leaders, without fact-checking the information, repeats Imedi’s falsehood in the very same propaganda piece.

The radical and destructive actions characteristic of the United National Movement have already extended beyond media and social networks, impacting street protests as well. These actions serve to divide people and foment discord amongst opposition voters, which only and exclusively strengthens Georgian Dream.

Georgian Dream has already started exerting pressure on mayoral and majoritarian candidates, utilising a range of tactics: on one hand, intimidation and bribery, and on the other, leveraging the UNM’s radicalism and psychological pressure.

Naturally, we expect that this coordinated joint attack by these two radical parties against us will continue. It is now clear that the UNM has opted to oppose the opposition itself in these elections, while their party’s elite faction has chosen to engage in Georgian Dream’s tactics of trolling. Therefore, we call upon ordinary members and supporters of the United National Movement to definitely go to the elections and vote against Ivanishvili,” Chanturia declared.
