The opposition For Georgia party appealed to Shalva Papuashvili, Parliament Speaker and Anri Okhanashvili, Chair of the Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee with a letter asking to discuss the party-tabled bill on Protection from Occupant Country Russia’s Influence together with two drafts Transparency of Foreign Influence and Foreign Agents Registration Act submitted to the parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee for revision.

The party registered the bill at the parliament bureau on March 2.

Beka Liluashvili, For Georgia party member, urged the parliament to ensure the protection of constitutional rights by considering both, the main and alternative drafts together within the set procedures otherwise the party would apply to the Constitutional Court.

According to Liluashvili, the bill Protection from Occupant Country Russia’s Influence envisages legal persecution of all those, who would attempt to lead Russian interests and altering Georgia’s constitutionally-defined foreign policy.

“This will be the only justified legislative response to the Russian goals’ bill on agents, with which the government prepares legislative sabotage for the European future of the country – targeting our strategic partners and friends instead of the occupant country,” he said.
