FM: We discussed ongoing disinformation campaigns against Georgia with OSCE Representative
“I had a constructive discussion with the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media. We addressed the challenges faced in the OSCE region, particularly concerning media freedom and independence,” said Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili, reflecting on her meeting with Jan Braathu, the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, during the OSCE Ministerial.
According to Botchorishvili, the conversation also covered the issue of disinformation.
“We also discussed ongoing campaigns related to disinformation and efforts to counter it. This is a particularly sensitive issue for Georgia, as often, based on unsubstantiated information, specific campaigns are carried out against our country through the media,” she noted.
The meeting further explored the role of the media in Georgia’s political processes and public life.
“We spoke about the media’s role in political affairs, issues of media freedom, and the broader OSCE space. We also discussed areas for cooperation. As an OSCE participating state, Georgia values the importance of collaboration within the framework of OSCE institutions. We will continue consultations and work closely with our partners,” added the Minister.
