FM: Truth is difficult to conceal; Georgia has impressive economic growth, Moldova's foreign debt indicator is high
“Georgia truly has historically impressive economic growth, whilst at the same time, we see that Moldova’s foreign debt indicator is at a historically high level. Therefore, the truth is very difficult to conceal,” Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Botchorishvili, has stated.
Botchorishvili was asked about information circulating in Moldovan media, which claims that Moldova’s total national debt has reached a historic high of 128 billion 649 million lei. The Foreign Minister was also asked about a statement by the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Paweł Herczyński, that “when it comes to the EU enlargement path, both Ukraine and Moldova are much further ahead than Georgia”.
According to Botchorishvili, Paweł Herczyński is casting a shadow over the European Union’s credibility.
“Such statements as the EU Ambassador makes in this instance, and not only him, do one thing and serve one purpose: they cast a shadow over the European Union’s credibility. It is impossible to conceal what is happening around us, in our country. We see that Georgia truly has historically impressive economic growth. At the same time, we see that Moldova’s foreign debt indicator is at a historically high level. Therefore, the truth is very difficult to conceal. Everyone can clearly see what is happening, how Georgia is developing, and how other countries are developing. In these circumstances, when it becomes absurd to assert that Moldova and Ukraine are surpassing Georgia by any indicators, it casts a shadow only over the credibility of those who say this,” stated Maka Botchorishvili.
