FM: Sanctioning Imedi TV and POSTV is continuation of unfair attitude towards Georgia
Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili condemned the recent sanctions imposed by the British government on the television companies Imedi and PosTV, calling them baseless and unfair.
The Minister stated that these sanctions are part of a continuing pattern of unwarranted measures targeting Georgia in recent years, particularly over the past four years.
“We were discussing the potential sanctioning of a Georgian port, which was ultimately avoided solely because there is no legal basis for sanctioning Georgian organizations. Georgia has been meticulously fulfilling all its obligations to prevent sanctions, making these recent attempts entirely groundless. As for imposing sanctions on television stations, it is inconceivable: on one hand, one claims to support free speech, yet on the other, targets popular TV channels simply because they have viewers. This represents a completely unfounded and unacceptable attack on Georgia,” Botchorishvili noted.
The UK Government has added Imedi TV and POSTV to the sanctions list. According to the information published by the British government, the two Georgian TV stations are involved in “spreading Russian disinformation.”
