“Our obligation is to protect the security of the country and not to take any actions that could even minimally endanger it,” said Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili.

According to Botchorishvili, “Any statement or demand suggesting that Georgia take steps likely to threaten the country’s security indicates that the person making such demands is either indifferent to our security or is deliberately calling for actions that would harm it and pose an existential threat.”

“Assessing such demands is simple. From our perspective, our duty is to safeguard the country’s security and avoid measures that could jeopardize it in any way. We have heard such demands repeatedly, and it is probably better for those making them to explain their intentions,” She added.

For context, the French, German and British Ambassadors to Georgia, Olivier Courteaud (France), Peter Fischer (Germany) and Gareth Ward (United Kingdom) published a joint article titled “Fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine: What is at stake for Georgia?”

The article clarifies that claims suggesting Germany, France, or the UK have called on Georgia to open a second front in the conflict are false and constitute disinformation.
