FM: It is important to discuss Georgia’s development and challenges in UN format
Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili stated that during her visit to Geneva she plans to meet with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and representatives of the organization.
Botchorishvili also announced a meeting with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, where discussions will focus on Georgia–Council of Europe relations and ongoing cooperation.
According to the minister, Georgia is using the UN platform to address the country’s key challenges and to once again draw the international community’s attention to the issue of the occupation of Georgia.
“This is the highest-level meeting on human rights within the UN framework. The committee works throughout the year, and at this time, the main human rights issues facing participating countries are discussed at a high-level session. It is important for us to speak in this format about the progress achieved by Georgia, as well as the challenges facing our country. We are using this opportunity to once again remind the international community of the occupation of Georgia and the human rights violations that accompany it.
It has been four years since the start of hostilities in Ukraine, and we have also used this platform to reiterate our firm support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, as well as for a peaceful resolution of the conflict, which is important for our region.
I will hold meetings with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and representatives of these structures, as well as with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe. We will have the opportunity to provide information about ongoing processes in Georgia, discuss our cooperation with the Council of Europe, and address issues related to Georgia–Council of Europe relations,” Maka Bochorishvili said.
