FM: Georgia passed through several wars, gov't driven by wish for peaceful development

“For the last 30 years, Georgia has passed through several wars, peace is significant and everyone should acknowledge why the Georgian government is driven by the wish for peaceful development,” said Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili in an interview with the Bulgarian National Television.

According to Maka Botchorishvili, ongoing developments in Georgia are evaluated by dual standards.

“We are dealing with dual standards when assessing ongoing developments in Georgia and comparing Georgian policy with other countries. The result is obvious: over 2 million Georgians participated in the elections, and approximately 1.2 million voted for the Georgian Dream.

This government enjoys strong support from Georgian society with no real season to suspect the results of the last elections. Nobody wants to see how the situation escalates and who seeks that. We often hear one-sided assessments of the ongoing events that creates incorrect perceptions about Georgia and ongoing developments in the country.

We still believe that all countries we are linked with friendship will finally return to friendly relations and we will be looking forward to this moment. Strategic patience is our main priority,” she said.

The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) published the translation of the interview.
