“The European Commission suspended visa-free travel for holders of diplomatic passports long ago, and its latest report merely confirms the view that certain forces need the issue of visa-free travel for Georgia to blackmail our nation and its people,” stated Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili.

When asked about the European Commission’s report, which examines the fulfilment of visa liberalisation conditions by partner countries, the Minister responded:

“The European Commission has fallen behind its own decisions; it suspended visa-free travel for diplomatic passport holders quite some time ago. Several EU member states have adhered to this decision, yet for reasons that remain unclear, the agreement was suspended for diplomatic passports. Moreover, the legal basis for such a suspension is still questionable. In light of this, these ongoing threats only reinforce the belief that certain forces are intent on using visa-free travel with Georgia as a tool for blackmail against our nation and people,” Maka Botchorishvili concluded.
