The first working meeting of Georgia-Russia-Switzerland joint commission will be held in Geneva today over the issue of customs monitoring of cargo turnover between Russia and Georgia. Representatives of Revenue Service, Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Justice Ministry will participate in the meeting.

Zurab Abashidze, Special Representative of Georgian Prime Minister for Russian Relations Issues on February 5 commented on the statements released by the Russian mass media alleging that cargo transit may be launched through the occupied territories as a result of the implementation of 2011 agreement.

“I hope that Georgia will not become entrapped y the propagandist rhetoric of another country. The Georgian side will act based on the principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty,” Abashidze said.

Abashidze explained that the 2011 agreement envisages customs administering and monitoring of cargo between Georgia and Russia by representatives of the Swiss company and does not mean opening of corridors automatically.

The Swiss Company SGS will carry out customs monitoring of cargo between Georgia and Russia based on the agreement signed in 2011.
