First Channel is where Georgian cinema is, GPB Dir/Gen says

Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) has set a GEL 5,000 prize for the best female director of the Pitching Forum of the Second International Film Festival in Mestia, Svaneti, and awarded Ana Kvichidze. The GPB co-produced and premiered The Watchers, a jury favourite, a month ago on the GPB First Channel.

In an interview with the Akhali Dghe program (New Day), GPB Director General Tinatin Berdzenishvili discussed the festival, having said the Public Broadcaster is where the Georgian cinema is. At the International Film Festival in Svaneti, the GPB had specific requirements. One of them was the participation of a female film director since the GPB strongly supports female professionals.

“Investing in Georgia is significant for the Public Broadcaster. We acted according to our strategy, focusing primarily on creating a high-quality Georgian product. We prefer Georgian and national rather than purchased products. Based on this principle, we decided that Ani Kvichidze should be the winner for us so that the investment we will make in the future will remain in Georgia and be used by Georgian professionals,” said Tinatin Berdzenishvili.

International film financing and co-production event Pitching Forum facilitates, develops, and finances film projects.
