Finance Minister meets ADB President

Georgian Minister of Finance, Lasha Khutsishvili, met with Masato Kanda, President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), who visited Georgia for the first time in his capacity as the bank’s president.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Finance, focused on the long-standing partnership between Georgia and the ADB. Since the beginning of cooperation, the bank has played a crucial role in supporting infrastructure projects and structural reforms in Georgia. Currently, ADB’s portfolio in Georgia exceeds $5 billion, supporting initiatives that strengthen the country’s position in the Middle Corridor transport network.

During the discussion, Minister Khutsishvili presented Georgia’s macroeconomic and fiscal indicators, as well as the country’s efforts to enhance energy security, competitiveness, and accelerate transport infrastructure development of regional and international importance. The conversation also highlighted ADB’s support for private sector development and its pioneering role as the first international financial institution to provide a sovereign loan to Georgia in local currency.

ADB President Masato Kanda emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership with Georgia, both bilaterally and regionally, and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting Georgia’s aspirations to become a regional gateway between Asia and Europe. He also noted that the expansion of the ADB’s representative office in Georgia reflects the scale of cooperation and partnership between the bank and the country.
