The Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Givi Mikanadze, clarified the circumstances under which students may be admitted to universities as exceptions.

According to the Minister, additional students beyond the established quotas may be accepted in the following circumstances:

  • When two or more students with equal scores are vying for the final place following the Unified National Exams;
  • When applicants residing in the temporarily occupied territories of Georgia seek admission to relevant programmes at state universities without undergoing the Unified National Exams.

“The primary goal of the reform of our higher education system is to ensure that Georgian students in Georgia receive a higher education that meets modern standards, which, regrettably, is not currently the case. Setting university admission quotas according to sound principles will lay a solid and essential foundation for achieving this objective,” Givi Mikanadze emphasised.

For context, the Georgian government today approved the student admission quotas for state universities.
