Ex-President Zourabichvili suffered injuries during airport incident; calls for investigation

Eka Beselia, a representative of former President Salome Zourabichvili, has filed a formal complaint with the General Prosecutor’s Office concerning an egg-pelting incident at Tbilisi International Airport.

According to Eka Beselia, following the incident, Salome Zourabichvili underwent a medical examination, where her injuries were confirmed.

Beselia considers the incident to be a premeditated attack, meticulously planned.

“Salome Zourabichvili’s accompanying person recorded one part of the attack where at least two individuals can be identified. Approximately 10 people participated in the attack. No police were present at the scene, neither before the incident nor at the attack moment or afterwards, which means that the attack was plotted,” she said.

According to Beselia, security officers attempted to contact the police but without any response.

“President’s accompanying persons know some of the assailants by face. Four people accompanied Salome Zourabichvili in Munich. All of them should be questioned. We indicated their names and contact information. Salome Zourabichvili was visually observed with facial injuries, and we insisted on a medical examination.

At our request, she underwent the examination and the medical institution issued an official document, which is attached to the complaint. Facial injuries are confirmed. When somebody throws something in the face, this may be dangerous for health and hazardous, and the law is much stricter in that case. Throwing objects toward the president just because you do not like her political viewpoints is a premeditated attack.

There is an article for that in the Criminal Code, and the fact that she was observed with injuries adds qualification which requires a probe,” she said.

Former President Salome Zourabichvili, returning from the Munich Security Conference, was verbally abused and pelted with eggs at Tbilisi International Airport. A video documenting the incident has been circulating on social media.
