Ex-president Zourabichvili: Georgia confronts Russia alone amid European aspirations

“Europe is our future—where full freedom, peace, and independence reign, the very ideals for which Georgia has fought for centuries,” ex-president Salome Zourabichvili told reporters at the ExpoGeorgia fairgrounds, where Europe Day is celebrated at the initiative of the EU Delegation to Georgia.

She emphasised that Georgia remains isolated, facing Russia alone.

“I extend my congratulations to everyone who envisions a future of a free, independent, strong, and prosperous Georgia. This vision is realised here, among us, with our friends, and within the embrace of the European Union—our shared future. The full spectrum of freedom, peace, and independence—values for which Georgia has struggled for centuries—must be safeguarded.

Yet, Georgia finds itself alone, confronting Russia face-to-face. We are acutely aware of what that entails; we have endured it before, and no one wishes to revisit such hardships. I am here today just as many others are—part of a collective celebration for those who believe that dignity, freedom, and independence are intrinsically linked with Europe,” Zourabichvili asserted.
