Ex-President to Nika Gvaramia: Why bring Cervantes or Avtandil into this? Just say that self-sacrifice for one’s homeland is utter nonsense

“Dear Nika Gvaramia, why the need for such a convoluted post? Why bring Cervantes or Avtandil into this? You should have just said outright that self-sacrifice for one’s homeland is utter nonsense,” wrote former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili on social media.

Saakashvili was responding to a post by Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the Opposition Alliance, who wrote that “to defeat authoritarian illusions and propaganda, society needs neither Quixotism nor Hamletian indecision, but rather the spirit of Avtandil; together we must tear down the Castle of Kajeti.”

As Saakashvili wrote: “We would simply have disagreed with you, everyone would have maintained their stance, and we would all have continued on our path. If Avtandil has a Facebook page, don’t tag him or let him know,” Saakashvili added.
