Ex-PM Garibashvili ‘stabbed himself in the back’ over unexplained items found in home search, says MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili

“Regrettably, Irakli Garibashvili has bought into the exact narrative peddled by the so-called radical opposition. How precisely did we stab him in the back? Did we plant five million dollars in his house, set out gold bullion and luxury watches worth no less than 100,000 dollars each, and then stage a search to seize it all?” stated parliamentary majority MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili.

Sharmanashvili asserted that the former prime minister had effectively confessed to specific criminal acts.

“He stabbed himself in the back, and the sooner he comes to terms with that, the better. How can he claim political persecution? He admitted to a specific crime. Even without that admission, items were discovered in his home during the search whose legitimacy he could not justify. How did we stab him in the back when items were found in his home that prove he brought this knife down on himself?” Sharmanashvili remarked.

The statements follow a social media post published by former Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili, in which he wrote: “I serve neither the West, nor the East, nor the North, nor the South; I serve Georgia. You who stabbed me in the back.”
