Ex-PM Garibashvili likely to found new party, his claims are ‘mere speculation’, says MP Cheishvili
“We are not fighting or persecuting anyone politically. Irakli Garibashvili declared that he has returned to politics; he will likely establish a political party and continue his political career. His claims are pure speculation because we persecute and blackmail no one; all of this exists merely in his imagination,” stated parliamentary majority MP Irakli Cheishvili.
According to Cheishvili, the former Prime Minister’s statements are entirely political.
“It is regrettable that our former leader and former Prime Minister is so profoundly misguided. Every single statement he has published to date reads as purely political rhetoric. When charges were formally brought against him, he cooperated with the investigation himself and is now serving his sentence.
In this specific instance, there has been no ‘stab in the back’ from our side; he cooperated with the prosecution, confessed to the charges, and is serving his sentence in accordance with the law. Nobody persecutes anyone: not Irakli Garibashvili, nor Mikheil Saakashvili. Every convict serves their sentence justly. Unlike others, Irakli Garibashvili acknowledged the crime he committed.
I do not believe anyone will follow Irakli Garibashvili through this process, as his claims are sheer speculation. Naturally, he is simply attempting to score political points,” Cheishvili noted.
Yesterday, former Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili published another post on social media, writing: “I serve neither the West, nor the East, nor the North, nor the South; I serve Georgia; you stabbed me in the back.”
