European Socialists to form new opposition group in Parliament

“We have decided to establish a parliamentary opposition group based on the European Socialists party,” announced MP Ilia Injia.

During a briefing, Injia revealed that MPs Varlam Liparteliani and Nika Elisashvili would also be joining the newly formed faction, which aims to fulfil a “healthy opposition function.”

“As you know, the credentials of MPs from three opposition parties have been revoked. I believe this situation presents new opportunities for establishing a new political culture in Georgia—one in which the parliamentary opposition engages in constructive criticism, proposes fresh initiatives for effective governance, and fosters rapid development, rather than deepening polarization and animosity.

In light of this, we decided to establish the parliamentary opposition group aligned with the European Socialists. We have fully respected the principle of collegiality and have informed the representatives of the parliamentary majority about our decision.

Our position regarding the radical opposition remains unchanged. We will do everything in our power to prevent the United National Movement from seeking retribution and to ensure that the country does not regress to its dark past. We see our mission as providing a healthy opposition that effectively monitors the activities of the government and parliament, presents legislative initiatives, and engages in meaningful debates for a better future for Georgia.

A democratic system cannot thrive without a healthy opposition. I am confident that our efforts will play a crucial role in shaping a political framework focused on the country’s development,” stated Ilia Injia.
