European Parliament - Russia must cease its occupation of Georgian territories of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region
The European Parliament has adopted a resolution on the current state of EU-Russia political relations, in which Georgia is mentioned.
The document was supported by 402 members of the European Parliament, 163 MPs voted against, and 89 abstained.
In the resolution, MPs note that Russia continues to violate Georgia and Moldova’s territorial integrity and illegal annexation of Crime, which is a deliberate violation of international law, democratic principles and fundamental values.
Members of the European Parliament condemn human rights violations by Russian representatives on the occupied territories.
“EP Reaffirms its unequivocal support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia; demands that the Russian Federation cease its occupation of the Georgian territories of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia and fully respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia; stresses the need for the Russian Federation to unconditionally fulfil all the provisions of the ceasefire agreement of 12 August 2008, in particular the commitment to withdrawing all its military forces from the territory of Georgia”, – the resolution reads.
