European Integration Committee Chair: Hoping Ukraine’s Ambassador won’t continue previous hostile policy in Georgia
The Chairman of the European Integration Committee of the Parliament, Levan Makhashvili, expressed hope that the appointment of a new Ukrainian ambassador to Georgia would lead to a reassessment of Ukraine’s policy toward the country and contribute to the restoration of normal bilateral relations.
According to Makhashvili, the new ambassador should not continue what he described as a hostile approach previously taken by the Ukrainian government toward Georgia.
“First of all, we should wait for the arrival of the new Ukrainian ambassador and see what steps he takes and what decisions he makes. We sincerely hope that he will not continue the hostile policy that his government pursued toward Georgia. We remember why the previous ambassador was recalled, how attempts were made to strain relations and to drag Georgia into Russia’s games. Hopefully, these processes will not be repeated. We hope that the appointment of the new ambassador will reflect a reconsideration of their policy, an understanding that it was wrong, and that it is necessary to establish normal relations with Georgia,” Makhashvili said.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed Mykhailo Brodowich as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Georgia.
Ukraine recalled its ambassador from Georgia on March 1, 2022, a decision announced by President Zelenskyy.
