European Integration Committee Chair: Georgia has its own agenda and remains committed to regional connectivity

Georgia has its own agenda and remains committed to its role as a regional connector, said Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament.

“Georgia is exactly where it was before. Georgia has long served as a connector for eight landlocked countries, and we continue to fulfil this function today. There appear to be certain challenges related to the launch of this route, and I am confident that the US Vice President will try to address them,” Makhashvili stated.

According to him, the planned visit may also be linked to the presidential elections in Armenia, but this remains part of another country’s agenda.

“Georgia has its own agenda. We remain where we were, we have the same goals in terms of connecting countries, and we will continue to carry out this role,” he added.

For reference, US Vice President J.D. Vance is expected to visit Azerbaijan and Armenia in February. According to US President Donald Trump, the visit aims to strengthen peacekeeping efforts in the region.
