European Council: Georgia progressed in key reforms

EU Foreign Affairs Ministers held an informal exchange over lunch with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili focusing on Georgia’s European perspective and the need to strengthen its democracy, the European Council said in its statement.

“The discussion confirmed that Georgia has made significant progress in many key reforms and highlighted that rule of law, human rights, media, civil society and independent state institutions are important elements for each country aspiring to join the EU,” it said.

Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili attended a meeting held within the framework of the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) together with EU ministers of foreign affairs.

The EU foreign ministers discussed EU expansion and Georgia’s European Perspective, Georgia-EU cooperation priority trends and the fulfilment of the EC’s 12-point priorities.
